Optronics' High-Style, Low-Profile, Multifunction, Surface-Mount LED Taillight Replaces Four Lamps, Sets the Stage for Future Combo Lamp Offering

The first of a new modular lighting series, Optronics’ new STL02/03 LED taillight performs side marker, rear clearance and license plate illumination functions, and also serves as a rear and side reflector.

TULSA, Okla., USA (May 4, 2021) – Optronics International, a leading manufacturer of vehicle harnesses, electronic control systems and LED lighting for the global transportation industry, introduced its new STL02/03 LED taillight today. The low-profile, surface-mount lamps not only take on stop, tail and turn functions, as well as serving as rear and side clearance and marker lamps and rear and side reflectors, but they also come with a license plate light. Though they fit within the standard footprint for taillights, their unique shape and automotive styling makes them as unique and attractive as they are functional.

The new lamps are also the first in a new series of lamps that promise to combine even more functionalities, including backup lighting. The STL02/03 LED taillight’s modular design has also been engineered so that it can be configured into novel lighting assemblies that can easily be customized to meet the preferences of OEMs and fleets alike.

"The low-profile, multi-function, surface-mount STL02/03 LED taillight is just the latest in a long line of intelligently designed lighting that consolidate the functionality of multiple lamps into just one," Marcus Hester, chief marketing officer for Optronics International, said. "The result is a high-value lighting package that is less expensive than the sum of its functional parts."

The thin, surface-mount lamps measure just 1.25 inches in depth, and can be mounted virtually anywhere regulations allow. The lamps are available with stud mounts that enable installation from the rear, and they can also be mounted from the front, using screws or other fastener methods.

The lamps are compatible with a wide range of vehicle types, including box trucks, bulk haulers, CNG transports, concrete mixers, cranes, dump bodies, fire & rescue, flatbeds, food & beverage, service bodies and utility & telecom vehicles. Optronics also expects the burgeoning recreational vehicle industry to take note of the new lamp.

"With the introduction of the STL02/03 LED taillight, Optronics continues its mission to deliver better value, better options and better lighting to the commercial vehicle industry," said Hester. "Please stay tuned for updates on how this trendsetting modular lamp will keep setting the pace in new configurations in 2022."

The lamp's lens and housing are made of tough polycarbonate material that is sealed and waterproof. The lamp employs a solid-state, surface-mount device (SMD) design that protects its electronics against moisture, shock and vibration. Like all LED products from Optronics, these lamps come with a no-hassle, one-diode lifetime warranty protection that will replace the lamp if even one diode fails.

The new low-profile, multi-function, surface-mount STL02/03 LED taillights are in stock and available for shipping now. The upcoming modular iterations with backup functions and additional lens options are expected in the first quarter of 2022.

Optronics Introduces Unique LED Combination ID Light Bar with Integrated Utility and Scene Light

Optronics' new, ultra-thin combination identification light bar with integrated utility and scene light puts huge LED lighting flexibility into a small, convenient package.

TULSA, Okla., USA (Dec. 8, 2020) – Optronics International, a leading manufacturer of vehicle harnesses, electronic control systems and LED lighting for the global transportation industry, announced the introduction of its new MCL80RCB LED Combination ID Light Bar & Utility Light today. The new lamp enables a vehicle’s light bar to serve double duty as a utility and scene light, whether it’s mounted high or low.

With a mounting position high on the back of a vehicle, the lamp is able to illuminate a wide area below and behind it with white LED light. Mounted on trailers where the ID bar is close to the ground, the lamp provides greater visibility and safety with a tighter and more intense beam pattern.

Generally, when working in, on or around the rear end of a vehicle in lowlight conditions, separate utility or work lamps are needed to light the work area. Extra lights require mounting, routing holes, wiring and careful lamp placement so as not to interfere with vehicle operation, doors and personnel.

Using the ID light already required for vehicles measuring 80 inches or more in width as a platform, the MCL80RCB LED Combination ID Light Bar & Utility Light incorporates two seven-diode white LED utility lights. The thin, streamlined body of the lamp measures just 15.5 inches in length, 1.313 inches in width and 0.75 inches in thickness, including its attached, closed-cell foam gasket.

"The LED Combination ID Light Bar & Utility Light offers optimal convenience and minimal complexity for those who must work around the rear of vehicles in darkness,’ Marcus Hester, vice president of sales and marketing for Optronics International, said. "With two utility lights and a standard ID light, our new MCL80RCB is actually three lamps in one.’

The surface-mount, hardwired lamp is easy to install and its integrated utility lights can be operated with a standard switch. The lamp requires just two fasteners for mounting and one wiring hole with a 0.59-inch diameter.

"During focus groups, we’ve seen significant interest from multiple customer segments,’ Hester said. "This lamp can be used anywhere an ID bar is mounted and because that’s usually up high, a customer can use it to light cargo, liftgates and the ground below.’

The company believes it’s a perfect match for vehicles involved in last-mile delivery, particularly during winter months. It's also expected to be a great fit for any enclosed trailer, including horse trailers, along with a variety of truck van bodies.

The lamp's lens and housings are made of tough polycarbonate material that is sonically welded. The lamp employs a solid-state, surface-mount device (SMD) design that protects its electronics against moisture, shock and vibration. Like all LED products from Optronics, these lamps come with no-hassle, one-diode lifetime warranty protection that will replace the lamp if even one diode fails.

The MCL80RCB LED Combination ID Light Bar & Utility Light is expected to be in stock and available for shipping in the first quarter of 2021.

Optronics Expands LED Utility and Work Light Offering by 40 Percent with Introduction of Eight New Versatile Lamps

Optronics' broader line of 28 LED utility and work lights means it has a lamp for virtually any application and at every price point.

TULSA, Okla., USA (Nov. 17, 2020) – Optronics International, a leading manufacturer of vehicle harnesses, electronic control systems and LED lighting for the global transportation industry, introduced eight new LED utility and work lights today, expanding its total category offering by 40 percent and its packaged line by 50 percent. The eight new, feature-rich LED lamps come in a variety of shapes and sizes and are all available in retail packages and in bulk.

The new lamps range from utility and work lights to scene lights, and even include a freestanding, rechargeable, cordless, multifunctional LED lamp. The products enable users to address a vast array of auxiliary lighting applications. With such a wide variety of shapes, sizes, prices and raw lumen outputs ranging from 1,000 to 20,000, Optronics' entire family of LED utility and work lights can match any budget and any application.

"Utility and work lights are vital for those working in, on and around vehicles, particularly as the days grow shorter this winter,’ Marcus Hester, vice president of sales and marketing for Optronics International, said. "With 28 LED competitively priced utility and work lights available, Optronics now has the most formidable product offering in the marketplace.’

The list of new LED utility and work lights includes:

  • The TLL41FS Rubber Housing Utility Light with rugged, rubberized housing and seven LEDs.
  • The TLL42FS Swivel Base Utility/Work Light featuring swivel points on both its mounting bracket and handle for unlimited positioning and 13 LEDs.
  • The TLL145FS Utility Work Light with die-cast aluminum housing and seven LEDs.
  • The TLL153FK Mini Utility Lights in a two-light set, each with nine LEDs.
  • The UCL26CS Low Profile Flood Light with two-inch thickness and six LEDs.
  • The UCL28CS Off-Road Spot Light with die-cast aluminum housing and tough powder-coated finish.
  • The UCL42CS Mini Scene Light with unique 45-degree directional flood beam pattern.
  • The UCL73 Rechargeable, Cordless Utility Light with spot, flood and emergency beam functions and multi-device charging capabilities via USB port.

With the exception of the Off-Road Spot Light, all the new lamps come with stainless steel mounting hardware and either IP65 or IP67 rating for contaminant resistance. All the lamps are designed to be compatible with both 12- and 24-volt electrical systems.

With the introduction of the new lamps, Optronics continues to demonstrate its industry leadership in the areas of packaging and merchandising. Distributors will continue to be impressed by attention-getting retail packaging designs and displays that put lighting front and center, where it counts.

By any measure, Optronics offers distributors one of the most sophisticated and comprehensive arrays of merchandising tools in the commercial vehicle industry. Custom display, planogramming and complementary point-of-purchase and point-of-sale distributor support are readily available.

Optronics' retail displays offer visibility and flexibility to retailers. Floor displays and bin boxes are large and built to last and to attract the eye. However, the sheer number of utility and work lights available from Optronics is enough to make any distributor take notice.

"The eight new utility and work lights would constitute a full product line for most lighting manufacturers,’ Hester said. "When you couple our expanded 28-light offering with our industry-leading packaging and merchandising programs, there is nobody around who can match Optronics in this market space.’

Optronics Unveils Modular LED Strip Light That Can Snap Together, Forming Almost 7 Feet of Continuous Illumination

Optronics' Modular LED Strip Light mounts almost anywhere, has a finished look, comes in 17.25-inch modules, and delivers a sustained and uniform beam pattern along its length.

TULSA, Okla., USA (July 7, 2020) – Optronics International, a leading manufacturer of vehicle harnesses, electronic control systems and LED lighting for the global transportation industry, announced the introduction of its new Modular LED Strip Light model ILL23CB today. The versatile new light is 17.25 inches long and only 0.75 inches thick and can be mated together to form a solid, linear light source measuring 6.939 feet in length. Its design makes it easy to install, even in corners, and its automotive styling and end caps give the light a clean, finished look.

LED strip lights on vehicles have become more and more ubiquitous as their designs have advanced. However, the lamps are generally engineered for independent applications, and if multiple lamps are used together, each must be wired in a sequence, or "daisy-chained" together. The wiring process can be tedious and time consuming and often leaves the finished application looking cobbled together.

Optronics' Modular LED Strip Light is designed for total adaptability and can be used in virtually any interior environment. Individual lamps have a streamlined ABS housing with an integrated acrylic lens and require just two fasteners for surface mounting.

Each lamp comes with a power cap on one end and trim finish cap on the other. Both caps are detachable, revealing modular connecting ports that enable up to six of the lamps to plug together, giving the resulting lamp configuration a long, clean, seamless look.

"Our Modular LED Strip Light offers total installation versatility and looks great no matter which length is selected,’ Marcus Hester, vice president of sales and marketing for Optronics International, said. "Its intelligent design is rivaled only by 6,000 K daylight brightness, providing almost 7 linear feet of seamless LED illumination.’

The lamp's optical characteristics create a broad, smooth, even beam pattern that can illuminate large areas. Each 18-diode lamp packs 880 raw lumens and delivers 730 effective lumens.

The lamps are perfect for ceiling and corner-mount applications. Their low profile makes them less vulnerable to strikes by cargo and loading equipment, and their nearly 7-foot length makes them particularly suitable for lighting the long and narrow spaces inside vehicles. The interior lamps are rugged enough to be used on a variety of commercial vehicles and stylish enough to be used on consumer vehicles, including RVs.

The Modular LED Strip Light power caps are suitable for hardwired installation, and the multi-volt lamps accommodate both 12-volt and 24-volt vehicle electrical systems. One power cap is capable of powering up to six connected lamps.

The Modular LED Strip Light model ILL23CB is available for immediate shipping. Like all LED products from Optronics, these lamps come with the company’s no-hassle, one-diode lifetime warranty protection that will replace the lamp if even one diode fails.

"Our engineers took a good hard look at vehicle strip lighting,’ Hester said. "They designed out the weaknesses they found and designed in new advantages that others simply hadn't thought of. The resulting innovations of our new modular strip light speak for themselves.’

Optronics Presents Smart, Dimmable, Super-Bright, Ultra-Thin Opti-Brite Diamond Series LED Interior Lamps

Memory features, motion detection, brightness, variable intensity and low profile set Optronics' new Opti-Brite Diamond Series LED Interior Lamps apart from others.

TULSA, Okla., USA (July 7, 2020) – Optronics International, a leading manufacturer of vehicle harnesses, electronic control systems and LED lighting for the global transportation industry, unveiled its new Opti-Brite Diamond Series LED Interior Lamps today. The thin, surface-mount lamps are dimmable and able to remember previous intensity settings. Diamond Series lamps are designed for broad interior application flexibility and can be wired to operate manually or use their passive infrared sensors (PIR) to automatically illuminate in the presence of human movement.

The distinctive diamond-shaped lamps feature daylight LEDs that emit light within the color temperature range of natural sunlight. At just half an inch thick, the surface-mount, hardwired lamps can be installed on ceilings, in compartments, under cabinets and virtually anywhere else light is needed inside a vehicle.

The Opti-Brite Diamond Series LED Interior Lamps come in two sizes. The 66-LED model ILL02 measures 13.5 inches and boasts an output of 2,000 lumens. The 36-LED model ILL03 measures just 6.7 inches, but still delivers a 1,500 lumen output. Snap-on trim rings are available for both lamp models and come in white, black and chrome finishes.

"Opti-Brite Diamond Series Lamps are compact, bright and feature-rich, and with their memory function, they are like nothing else on the interior lighting market,’ Marcus Hester, vice president of sales and marketing for Optronics International, said. "Their low profile allows these lamps to be mounted almost anywhere, and their built-in intelligence enables them to provide and remember precisely the amount of illumination the user needs.’

Four activation options are available for the Diamond Series Lamps. Users can choose SmartTouch with its dimming and memory feature, PIR with its infrared motion-sensing feature, a manual on and off switch or a no-switch design.

Optronics' innovative SmartTouch feature gives users an integrated, centrally located touch switch for on, off and dimming functions. Once dimmed to the desired level, the lamp can be cycled on and off while remembering its last brightness setting.

"OEMs, bodybuilders and anyone installing Diamond Series Lamps will love the thin-line design and ease of installation,’ Hester said. "Because lamp wiring will easily fit through just a quarter inch hole, the structural integrity of interior surfaces can be totally preserved.’ Installation of the lamps is easy, requiring just two fasteners. Diamond Series Lamps are designed to be versatile and can accommodate both 12-volt and 24-volt vehicle electrical systems.

The Opti-Brite Diamond Series Lamps models ILL02 and ILL03 are expected to be available in the third quarter of 2020. The lamps, lenses and housings are made of tough polycarbonate material that is sonically welded. The lamps employ a solid-state, surface-mount device (SMD) design that protects their electronics against moisture, shock and vibration. Like all LED products from Optronics, these lamps come with no-hassle, one-diode lifetime warranty protection that will replace the lamp if even one diode fails.

Optronics Introduces Industry's First Compliant, Smoke-Lens LED Stop, Tail, Turn, Backup and Clearance Marker Lamps

With the introduction of its new array of Smoke-Lens LED lamps, Optronics continues to lead the industry in bringing automotive-style lighting to the commercial vehicle arena.

TULSA, Okla., USA – Optronics International, a leading manufacturer of vehicle harnesses, electronic control systems and LED lighting for the global transportation industry, announced the introduction of five new LED lamps with Optronics' unique Smoke-Lens effect. The lamps' darkened lenses help them blend into a vehicle’s body contours, presenting a clean, non-invasive and stylish look.

The Smoke-Lens offering includes 6-inch oval and 4-inch round stop, tail, turn lamps, a 6-inch oval backup lamp and a three-quarter-inch PC-rated clearance marker lamp. Optronics is also introducing a 20-inch Smoke-Lens version of its popular Thinline series surface-mount LED stop, tail, turn light bar, complete with a matte black mounting base/bezel.

"Optronics has been unrivaled in its introduction of high-style lighting to the commercial vehicle market," Brett Johnson, president and CEO of Optronics International, said. "Our new Smoke-Lens LED lamps closely follow trends in the consumer automotive lighting segment, and give OEMs and upfitters the ability to further differentiate their vehicle designs through creative lighting."

In fact, blackout-lens lamps have been seen in the automotive aftermarket for several years. The problem that has plagued them is their lack of regulatory compliance. The very dark lenses that make them visually interesting also make them less able to emit the requisite amount of light to pass federal requirements.

"In order to meet federal and international standards, Optronics’ engineers had to overcome a number of optical challenges," said Kyle O’Dell, director of engineering for Optronics International. "I’m proud to say that our world-class technical team met the challenges and that all of our new Smoke-Lens LED lamps meet FMVSS 108 and CMVSS 108 photometric requirements for visibility and safety."

According to Joe Lewis, vice president of CM Truck Beds, the new lamps are hitting the market at just the right time. CM Truck Beds will be displaying Optronics’ new 6-inch oval LED Smoke-Lens stop, tail, turn and three-quarter-inch clearance marker lamps as a concept on one of its TM Bodies in booth 2415 at the 2020 Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Ind., March 4-6.

"Our TM Body has clean and sleek black finish and Optronics’ new Smoke-Lens LED lamps enable us to enhance that look," Lewis observed. "Certain segments of the commercial vehicle marketplace are highly influenced by automotive trends, and our TM Body is a great example of ongoing shifts in the industry focused on function and cosmetic appeal."

The new 6-inch oval Smoke-Lens stop, tail, turn lamp; 6-inch oval backup lamp; three-quarter-inch PC-rated clearance marker lamp; and 20-inch Thinline series surface-mount LED stop, tail, turn light bar are available now. The 4-inch round stop, tail, turn lamp is expected to be available in the third quarter of 2020.

Optronics Acquires USA Harness, Becomes Industry’s Newest Integrated Full-Line Lighting and Harness Supplier

With its acquisition of USA Harness, Optronics will disrupt the status quo, taking its place as one of only a handful of industry suppliers offering a comprehensive line of integrated modular power delivery and lighting solutions for commercial vehicles.

TULSA, Okla., USA – Optronics International, a leading manufacturer and supplier of heavy-duty LED vehicle lighting, announced that it has completed its acquisition of Texas-based USA Harness, Inc. A leader in trailer harnesses and electronic control systems, USA Harness serves the global transportation industry with its USA-PLUS Sealed Modular Wiring Harness System and its patented USA-PLUS Modular Connection System. With its unique O-ring-style seal and secondary lock pin design, the USA-PLUS Modular Connection System has been tested and proven to perform at three times the industry standard.

The acquisition makes Optronics the newest of only a few manufacturers capable of fully serving the light-, medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicle industry with both lighting and harness technologies. The industry will benefit from increased competition and a broader array of advanced, integrated, modular power delivery and lighting solutions.

"In less than a decade, Optronics has dramatically changed the competitive landscape in commercial vehicle lighting with its focus on technological innovation, broader options and greater value, and we're about to do the same with harnesses," Brett Johnson, president and CEO of Optronics International, said. "OEMs have become ever more adamant in encouraging us to enter the harness side of the business, because the competition in that segment has remained so limited."

Optronics is already a respected harness manufacturer on three continents and is the undisputed leader in Australia. Coupled with its diverse international background and experience, the newly acquired engineering and manufacturing capabilities of USA Harness will position Optronics to hit the ground running in North America, while fully leveraging its synergies as a global lighting and harness supplier.

"We have watched Optronics' exponential growth over the years and have engineered more and more harness systems for use exclusively with their lighting," said Debby Thompson, interim president of USA Harness. "Though we'll continue to produce harness systems that interface with all major lighting manufacturers, we're excited to now be able to offer a fully integrated modular power delivery and lighting solution."

Optronics is committed to its global manufacturing culture, and according to company officials, the acquisition of a U.S.-based harness manufacturing capability gives the company even greater supply chain latitude. "Just like the OEMs we serve, we're going to manufacture harness and lighting systems wherever it makes the most sense," Johnson said.

"Miller Industries is a publicly traded global manufacturer with facilities in the United States, England and France," Will Miller, president and Co-CEO of Miller Industries, said. "Optronics already has lighting and harness systems on some of the world's most respected commercial vehicle brands, and we see this move as a natural progression for a global tier-one supplier."

With their blended experience, both companies will begin selling integrated modular lighting and harness systems from day one. Targeted manufacturers include those making heavy-duty dry van, reefer, tank, car haul and flatbed trailers, as well as those making light- to medium-duty trailers. Heavy-duty truck and body manufacturers will also be a focus, as will heavy-duty off-highway vehicles, armored couriers and other specialized vocational equipment manufacturers.

"We're excited to see more competition come to the commercial vehicle lighting and harness business," Andy Tanner, president of Talbert Manufacturing, said. "Knowing Optronics, I expect this move to benefit my company, my customers and the industry as a whole."

USA Harness Granted New Patent On Its Ultra-High-Performance USA-PLUS Modular Connection System

Proven to perform at three times the industry standard, the patented USA-PLUS Modular Connection System keeps USA Harness at the forefront of vehicle power delivery.

WINNSBORO, Texas, USA – USA Harness, Inc., a leader in trailer harnesses and electronic control systems for the global transportation industry, announced that it has recently been granted a patent for its new USA-PLUS Modular Connection System. The new patent supersedes a previous patent the company held for an earlier iteration of the system, and improves on its O-ring-style seal and secondary lock pin design.

The new USA-PLUS Modular Connection System features a design variation that increases the engagement integrity between the system’s integral O-ring and the corresponding groove of its mated connection. A unique lock pin of contrasting color helps inspectors identify complete connection mating. The lock pin assures precision alignment of all components and a firm, complete, watertight union that employs dielectric grease as a sealing agent and a barrier to moisture, dirt and corrosion.

The company's USA-PLUS Sealed Modular Wiring Harness Systems are simple for OEMs to assemble, and use the same USA-PLUS Modular Connection System throughout. All of the connectors are constructed using a durable virgin vinyl molding compound. Even novice assembly workers can make flawless connections quickly and repeatedly, because the system’s keyed pin orientation guides a precision interface every time. Harness ends can be constructed to mate with any incandescent or LED lamp from any major manufacturer.

"Since its 1996 introduction, the USA-PLUS Sealed Modular Wiring Harness System has been considered the gold standard for its engineered durability, sealing efficacy and operational robustness," said Brett Miller, vice president of engineering for USA Harness. "Laboratory testing of the USA-PLUS Modular Connection System demonstrates that it can stand up to at least three times the cyclical testing standards recommended by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)."

Salt spray exposure tests following American Section of the International Association for Testing and Materials (ASTM) B117 standards, showed that the USA-PLUS Modular Connection System was able to remain fully operational and unimpeded after three times the testing exposure period recommended by SAE. The testing was performed by an independent lab and was terminated prior to any indication of system failure.

The USA-PLUS Modular Connection System is offered in a variety of styles that will accommodate virtually any modular plug-together application. The USA family of connectors includes 2-way, 4-way, 6-way and 7-way configurations. A 10-way system has also been developed for use in demanding military applications and for electrical systems with auxiliary circuitry. All harness systems with the USA-PLUS Modular Connection System come with an industry-leading five-year warranty.

"People say we have the lowest warranty claims rate in the industry," Miller said. "And with the introduction of our new patented USA-PLUS Modular Connection System, those claim rates are about to drop even further."

Optronics Introduces Industry's First Custom Logo Stop, Tail, Turn Lamps Featuring GloLight Technology

Optronics uses signature GloLight optics to create stunning branded lighting that can incorporate a manufacturer's, carrier's or product's logo.

TULSA, Okla., USA (Oct. 22, 2019) – Optronics International, a leading manufacturer and supplier of heavy-duty LED vehicle lighting, announced that it will be displaying the industry's first stop, tail, turn lamps with integrated graphics. The new lamps merge brand identities into the lighting design, juxtaposing a smooth GloLight lens appearance against a more traditional LED pattern. Examples of the new four-inch round and six-inch oval stop, tail, turn lamps will be displayed publicly for the first time in booth 2547 at the North American Commercial Vehicle (NACV) Show 2019.

GloLight technology allows Optronics to consolidate even complex graphics into the functional operation of the lamps. The new lamp's traditional LED-style lens pattern surrounds the logo graphic in the middle of the lamp. The GloLight logo portion of the lamp illuminates when operating in its standard function as a tail lamp, and when the lamp’s turn signal or brake functions are in operation, all portions of the LED lamp brighten.

"This is an industry first and a novel use for our GloLight technology," Brett Johnson, president and CEO of Optronics International, said. "Logos and branding have been widely incorporated into conspicuity tape for decades, so the migration to lighting is a logical one."

Marketing professionals also recognize that the four-inch round and six-inch oval lighting formats are among the most noticeable features on any vehicle. "Whether you’re consciously aware of it, if you’re driving behind a commercial vehicle, particularly at night, you're constantly monitoring its tail lights," said Johnson.

Optronics employed its state-of-the-art 3-D printing capabilities in preparing prototypes for the manufacturers. The company also worked with a number of OEMs during the development of the lamp, including Vanguard National Trailer Corporation and Miller Industries.

"Over the years, we've continued to appreciate Optronics' innovative approach to vehicle lighting and were among the first trailer manufacturers to make their GloLight part of our standard lighting package," Charlie Mudd, president of Vanguard National Trailer Corporation, said. "Optronics' technical, creative and pioneering spirit is evident in the design of these new lamps."

The lamps offer users a broad level of creative design flexibility for those responsible for a company's branding, because the GloLight technology can be used in both red and white or a combination of both. Lens striations can also be used to achieve unique and complementary visual effects.

"Miller Industries is the world leader in towing and recovery equipment, and our vehicles are recognized around the globe," Will Miller, president and Co-CEO of Miller Industries, said. "With the development of its new Custom Logo Stop, Tail, Turn Lamps, Optronics has presented us with another opportunity to further our brand’s recognition and strength."

Optronics' Purilite Light-Shield LED Lamps Will Reduce Exposure to Allergens and Pathogens in Commercial Vehicles

Optronics' new Purilite Light-Shield LED lighting technology sanitizes vehicle air, while removing hazardous particulate matter, and may help with FDA compliance.

Tulsa, Oklahoma – Optronics International, a leading manufacturer and supplier of heavy-duty LED vehicle lighting, announced that it will unveil its new LED-based Purilite Light-Shield decontaminating light for the first time in booth 2534 at the 2019 NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana. The unique LED technology promises to bring a revolutionary level of hygiene to vehicles everywhere, while improving air quality and enhancing worker safety in the process.

Many who work in, on and around vehicles are exposed to microscopic airborne pollutants so small that they evade the body's natural defense mechanisms, penetrating deep into respiratory and circulatory systems, and causing damage to lungs, hearts and brains. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has developed ambient air quality trends for particle pollution, also called Particulate Matter (PM).

PM 2.5 describes fine inhalable solid particles and liquid droplets, with diameters that are generally 2.5 micrometers and smaller. These particles include many types of mold and bacteria found in vehicles transporting food. PM2.5 also includes soot emitted by diesel engines and APUs.

"Airborne and surface-based mold and bacteria are also a concern for those workers on vehicles that are exposed to biological residue and other contaminants," Brett Johnson, president and CEO of Optronics International, said. "Sleeper cabs, vehicles with multiple users, and dry bulk and refrigerated food transportation haulers may be at greater risk of exposure. The climate a vehicle operates in may also be a factor in allergen and pathogen proliferation."

Purilite Light-Shield LED lamps generate a constant stream of negative ions, created by a proprietary coating applied to their LEDs. The lamp provides decontamination and sanitization functions, while producing optimal light quality for human vision, approaching the color temperature of natural sunlight.

The ionic sanitization occurs through both physical and biological mechanisms. The negative ions bind to lightweight airborne PM2.5 particles, adding mass and enabling natural gravitational forces to remove them from the air by causing them to float safely to the ground.

The negative ions also combine with positive molecules in mold spores and bacterial proteins, destroying them and causing them to decompose. Once terminated, what's left of the pathogens also fall inertly to the ground. With viability removed, the biological remnants are rendered essentially sterile, reducing exposure risks even if they are disturbed and become airborne again.

"When the lights are on, they are doing their job, it's deceptively simple," Johnson said, "A sleeper cab driver can flip on these lights, go grab a bite and when they return, the cab environment will be significantly cleaner. If they prefer, drivers can remain in the cab while the lights are working, it's perfectly safe just to leave them on."

Preliminary tests in a controlled environment show a 77 percent reduction in PM2.5 and a 65 percent reduction in Escherichia coli (E. coli) in just one hour. Testing also compared Purilite Light-Shield with standard LEDs as well as no light source.

The new lamp will also help food supply chain and cold chain shipping companies comply with the most recent Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) rule on Sanitary Transportation of Human and Animal Food. With some exceptions, the final rule applies to shippers, receivers, loaders and carriers that transport food in the United States by motor or rail vehicle, whether or not the food is offered for or enters interstate commerce.

"Until today, surface cleaning procedures and bacteria-resistant surface treatments were the only methods available to fleets required to adhere to FSMA guidelines," Johnson said. "Optronics' Purilite Light-Shield is the first technology to transcend simple surface-oriented decontamination methods and move toward cleansing the entire interior environment of a vehicle, including the air."
